Originally released on a small run of CDs in 2002, Volcano, I’m Still Excited!!’s debut EP Carbon Copy has long been out-of-print and virtually impossible to find (physically and digitally).

Written and performed by the trio of Mark Duplass, Byron Westbrook and John Thomas Robinette III, the touring VISE!! did behind Carbon Copy is what ultimately led them to play a show in Champaign, IL – a serendipitous night during which they struck up a friendship with the Polyvinyl crew who subsequently released their debut (and sadly, only) full-length album (2004’s Volcano, I’m Still Excited!!).

Though the band parted ways shortly after the record’s release, Mark Duplass has stayed quite active writing, directing and acting in a number of films and television series (way too many to list here). And all the while, VISE!! has remained a personal favorite of many Polyvinyl staffers as well as a tragically underrated gem from the label’s catalog.

After seeing Duplass post a video to Twitter of himself playing piano, we decided to reach out to see if there would be interest in putting Carbon Copy back out into the world in proper fashion. The answer was a resounding “Let’s do it!” And so we did.

Recalls Duplass: “We made this EP in Byron’s little apartment in South Austin before we really knew what this band was going to be. I always loved its goofy earnestness, and will always remember fondly that fateful last night of recording when we decided that there would be not one...but two exclamation points in the band's title!!!"

In addition to Carbon Copy’s original five-song tracklist, this deluxe reissue features expanded artwork and bonus material, including “1st Gun” from the out-of-print New Brad 7”, rare b-side “I Push” (from the Polyvinyl 2005 Sampler CD), the original, extended version of “Durham” and an acoustic rendering of “2nd Gun.”
